Kinda sucks but at least the crackling issue is now resolved.Įdit: Btw, the SB card sounds really good but of all the cards I tested, the Claro Plus had the best sound. I will have to buy an entire new setup and then just sell the extra card on ebay.

Unfortunately they no longer offer it as an upgrade kit. Then I found out that they offer another version (can't remember the name atm) that has a separate I/O card that installs in a drive bay.

The only thing I was bummed about is that the Soundblaster card has not front panel support so as I understand it, I have to unplug the damm speakers to plug in headphones to the back of the card?! That totally stinks. Likely the native shielding that they use but I shouldn't have had trouble with the Xonar card which also had shielding but I did. So having known that the SB card worked, I ordered another one except this time I got the fatalal1y (or however you spell it) and after receiving it, installed and not a single popping noise! So that is now two Soundblaster cards that worked well. I just thought for sure that it was a shielding issue. I was of course very angry having wasted all morning with that method. For whatever reason, it made it much worse immediately. I had also tried to build my own shielding as shown in that link above. Only to say that I had no problems with popping/crackling while using the Soundblaster x-fi. I can use PCI-E if I want the sound card next to the GTX570 or I can go PCI (I think PCI is the one with the short edge right?) in the top slot away from any other cards. I have two choices if I get a sound card. Not sure if I should replace with another sound card that has shielding or what. Not sure if this is info anyone can use but if anyone has an idea let me know. I also tried moving the video card to the top slot (where I read it is supposed to be anyway) and moved the sound card to the bottom slot.

Same popping getting so bad that the music starts skipping badly and eventually stops sometimes. I unplugged the speakers and plugged in headphones. Low and behold, it started the popping sound again. Played it for several minutes and then decided I would reboot the computer to see what would happen. So I'd had my computer off for several hours and turned it back on and the popping was gone when playing music.

This kind of fit as the problem didn't start immediately but only after reboot. Interestingly, I found someone who was having this popping issue but only when the computer had been on awhile. Update: I did some research to see if I could find a match to anyone in google with the same issue. soundblaster no popping and native sound no popping. Then after a reboot, the popping is back. EVen at high volumes, any type of music, I could not get it to pop at all.

Then I took the HT Omega Claro Plus out of my 2 year old rig and installed it with the latest drivers from Claro. Then I installed the soundblaster and it also worked good but as with most SB cards, volume and clarity are lacking. Then uninstalled that and tried just the native sound on the board after enabling it in the bios. I can't be sure the problem is in the shielding but if you guys think it is, please tell me. When I heard it come back I wanted to take this rig and throw it. 99% of the time during playback of music or other sound. I think all I did was reboot the computer after installing something else. I guess I was too busy patting myself on the back.

I have about 10 days left to get it back to Newegg for a full refund but I didn't really want to send it if it is something I can rectify.Īdded: Crackling can also be heard through the headphones port on the back of the card. Simply rapidly clicking on it will make this crackling, popping, static type noise. The faster I click on that slider bar, the more crackling it makes. Clicking that then there is a slider bar. Bottom right corner of Windows, there is a volume icon. Another example would be when changing the volume level. I have isolated this crackling to the following:Ģ. The speakers have amazing sound but the crackling sound is horrible. Using this cable to connect speakers to card: Recently built a new computer and finally received some cables to finish the installation.
